austriamicrosystems' (SWX: AMS) business unit Full Service Foundry expands its cost-efficient and speedy ASIC prototyping service, known as Multi-Project Wafer (MPW) or shuttle run, with a more extensive schedule for 2008. The service which combines several designs from different customers onto one wafer allows sharing the costs for wafer and masks among a number of different shuttle participants.

ARC's Open Source Software Program Supports Embedded Linux
ARC International (LSE: ARK) announced a new business model for open source software used on its lines of configurable CPU cores and multimedia subsystems. ARC is optimizing, delivering, and directly supporting versions of Embedded Linux 2.6, and GNU tools based on GCC 4.2 and future versions. Now ARC customers can access the latest versions of open source software and direct support from the people who are the best at developing software for ARC platforms. These technologies can be used in combination with the growing amount of application specific middleware and software based on the GNU/Linux platform.

Ambric Rolls Out Am2045B TeraOPS-class MPPA Device
Ambric®, Inc., the fabless semiconductor company that delivered the world's first teraOPS-class processor, announced that it is now delivering the Am2045B(TM). The new device offers higher performance and lower power than its predecessor, the Am2045A(TM). The Am2045B is the newest in the Ambric Am2000(TM) family of highly scalable, massively parallel processor arrays (MPPAs) using Ambric's award-winning(1) structured object programming model (SOPM) tools to make massively parallel software development practical for complex embedded systems. Ambric is a privately-held company headquartered in Beaverton, Ore., with funding from ComVentures, OVP Venture Partners, and Northwest Technology Ventures.

Mentor Optimizes Flow Between Precision Synthesis, Simulink HDL Coder
Mentor Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ:MENT) announced support for hardware description language (HDL) generated by MathWorks Simulink HDL Coder in the Mentor Graphics Precision® suite of advanced synthesis products. This capability enables mutual customers to transfer VHDL and Verilog generated by Simulink HDL Coder into the Precision Synthesis tool directly to generate an optimized netlist implementation for field programmable gate array (FPGA) designs. All mutual customers using Precision 2006a release or newer with Simulink HDL Coder can benefit from this flow, which will improve the productivity of FPGA design synthesis.
