Webinar: Linux and RTOS Virtualization in a Carrier Grade Environment

MontaVista Software, Inc.and VirtualLogix are hosting three webinars. The webinars will show how MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition (CGE) has been optimized to meet the requirements of virtualization on single-core and multi-core processors. VirtualLogix will use MontaVista Linux CGE to demonstrate RTOS and Linux virtualization with VLX for Network Infrastructure, which is a real-time virtualization technology.

The webcasts will show how and when to use virtualization to speed migration, improve modularity and portability, optimize performance, and manage security in telecom/datacom equipment and other communications devices. Attendees will learn how MontaVista Linux CGE leverages virtualization to increase reliability, improve flexibility and scalability, and provide high availability over a range of operating conditions and transaction volumes.

Cadence Introduces Virtuoso Passive Component Designer
Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDNS), the leader in global electronic-design innovation, introduced Cadence® Virtuoso® Passive Component Designer, a complete flow for the design, analysis and modeling of inductors, transformers and transmission lines. The new technology puts passive component design into the hands of analog and RF designers developing fast and complex wireless SoCs and RFICs. Starting from design specifications such as inductance, quality factor and frequency, the Virtuoso Passive Component Designer helps designers automatically generate the optimum inductive device for their specific application and process technology, resulting in higher performance and smaller area. A built-in accurate 3D full wave solver verifies the generated devices, eliminating the need for a dedicated inductor characterization run and reducing the design turnaround time.

Agilent, Anite Team on 3GPP LTE Test Solutions for Wireless R&D
Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) and Anite plc (LSE: AIE) announced that they have entered into a strategic partnership to deliver industry-leading 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) test solutions to wireless R&D engineers designing next-generation mobile communications products. Under the terms of this partnership, Agilent and Anite will provide a broad, comprehensive portfolio of solutions that address the entire UE lifecycle — from early development through production test.

FLIR Systems Acquires Extech Instruments
Waltham-based Extech Instruments, a major supplier of test and measurement equipment and portable receipt printers with distribution in over 90 countries, announces that the company's president and owner, Jerry Blakeley, has entered into an agreement in which the stock of Extech will be acquired by FLIR Systems, Inc. Located in Portland, Ore., FLIR is a world leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of thermal imaging and stabilized camera systems. The transaction, which is subject to standard closing conditions, is expected to be completed within the fourth quarter.

Silicon Labs Debuts AM/FM Radio Receiver with SW, LW Band Coverage
Silicon Laboratories Inc. (NASDAQ: SLAB), a leader in high-performance, analog-intensive, mixed-signal ICs, announced the expansion of its successful broadcast audio product line to include the industry's first fully-integrated AM/FM radio receivers with short-wave (SW) and long-wave (LW) band coverage. The high-performance Si4734/35 integrate the entire receiver from antenna input to audio output reducing size and solution component count by more than 90 percent compared to existing implementations. In a tiny 3- x 3-mm package, the Si4734/35 not only simplifies the design of existing SW and LW radios but also enables the addition of SW/LW capability to consumer electronics devices such as handsets and MP3 players, broadening the reach of SW and LW broadcast content used by consumers worldwide.

Elma Creates Liquid-Cooled Air Transport Rack Chassis
Elma Electronic Inc., a global manufacturer of electronic packaging products, has announced a new liquid-cooled ATR (air transport rack) chassis that is modular. The unit can be configured in various sizes and configurations without starting from scratch, which saves time, effort, and money.

PAX Selects Connect One's CO2128 IP iChip for P80 EFTPOS Terminal
Connect One(TM), the Device Networking Authority(TM), announced that PAX, a leading point-of-sale provider based in Shenzhen, China, has started mass production of the P80 EFTPOS terminal with Connect One's iChip(TM) CO2128. CO2128 provides secure Internet protocol (IP) communications and full support for WiFi connectivity. With these capabilities, PAX has been able to design the P80 as a high-performance EFTPOS terminal that provides stable and secure WiFi connectivity to its customers.

Mellanox Unveils Dual-Port 10GBase-T Ethernet NIC
Mellanox(TM) Technologies, Ltd. (NASDAQ:MLNX) (TASE:MLNX), a leading supplier of semiconductor-based, server and storage interconnect products, announced the availability of a dual-port, low-profile PCI Express adapter card supporting 10GigE connectivity to familiar and industry-standard Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) cabling supporting the 10GBase-T standard. Also available with PCI Express x8 Gen2 in addition to a single port version, these adapters integrate the ConnectX EN 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapter controller and the Ternaetics TeraPHY TN1010 transceiver supporting the IEEE 802.3an standard.

Google Challenges Android Developers with $10 Million
Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) announced the Android Developer Challenge, which will provide $10 million to developers who build mobile applications for Android(TM), the first complete, open, and free mobile platform. The Challenge is designed to support the developer community and spark innovation on the Android platform by awarding cash prizes ranging from $25,000 to $275,000 to developers whose applications are picked by a panel of judges.

Carbon Model Studio Supports RealView SoC Designer 7.0
Carbon Design Systems(TM), the leading supplier of tools for the automatic creation, validation and deployment of virtual hardware models, announced support for the latest version of RealView® System on Chip (SoC) Designer from ARM®. Its Carbon Model Studio generates hardware-accurate software models that integrate into RealView SoC Designer 7.0 release for rapid development and assembly of virtual platforms to explore architectural tradeoffs and perform pre-silicon software development. These tools are used by system architects, software engineers, hardware designers and third-party intellectual property (IP) providers for fast modeling, simulation and debugging of complex SoC designs.

Textronics Creates Transmitter for NuMetrex Heart Rate Monitor Apparel
Textronics, Inc. has developed a new transmitter for use with the stretchy fabric electrode sensors that are knit into the company's NuMetrex® brand of heart rate monitor fitness apparel. The new transmitter snaps into a tiny pocket in NuMetrex sports bras and shirts, where it receives the heart rate signal from textile sensors located across the chest band area. The data is then transmitted to a watch or exercise machine that displays a read-out of the heart rate. The NuMetrex system is compatible with most analog heart rate monitor watches including Polar, Nike, Reebok, Oregon Scientific, New Balance, Highgear and Accumen models, as well as gym-quality treadmills and elliptical machines.

CyberOptics Semiconductor Announces WaferSense Auto Vibration System
CyberOptics Semiconductor, a producer of precision products used for measuring critical parameters in semiconductor processes and equipment, introduced its new WaferSense(TM) Auto Vibration System (AVS), designed to monitor three-axis accelerations and equipment vibration to maximize equipment motion and wafer throughput.

Microchip Introduces MCP4725 Digital-to-Analog Converter
Microchip Technology Inc., a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, announced the MCP4725 Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC)-the industry's first DAC to combine integrated EEPROM and 12-bit resolution in a miniature, 6-pin SOT-23 package. The MathWorks Enhances MATLAB, Distributed Computing Toolbox
The MathWorks announced four enhancements in MATLAB® and Distributed Computing Toolbox that deliver increased performance and large data set handling. MATLAB now includes support for multithreaded computation for multicore systems and 64-bit Solaris platforms. Distributing Computing Toolbox now offers capabilities for developing applications that interleave parallel and serial code and interactively prototyping parallel algorithms on a desktop computer by running four local MATLAB sessions.

Solicore's Embedded Power Security Solutions Drive Market

RTI Data Distribution Service Integrates with GNAT Pro Ada Compiler
Real-Time Innovations (RTI), The Real-Time Middleware Experts, announced that it has integrated RTI Data Distribution Service with an industry-leading Ada compiler, GNAT Pro from AdaCore Inc. The Mathworks Releases SystemTest 2 Test Management, Analysis Software
The MathWorks announced a new version of SystemTest, its test management and analysis software for system verification and validation. Engineers can now automatically distribute independent tests or simulation runs of Simulink® models to multiple processors, without requiring manual coding, because SystemTest 2 works seamlessly with Distributed Computing Toolbox, also from The MathWorks. The enhancements in SystemTest 2 dramatically reduce the time needed for testing, leading to faster production of high-quality system designs.

Texas Instruments RF360 Smart IC Platform Supports MULTOS
Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) announced that MULTOS will be the first chip operating system supported on its advanced RF360 smart Integrated Circuit (IC) platform for electronic passport (e-passport) and government ID applications. This enables system integrators and government ID providers to immediately begin creating solutions on TI's RF360 product for this rapidly growing market. MULTOS was selected for its open architecture, proven security mechanisms and broad acceptance in a range of payment and government ID applications around the world, including national IDs and e-passports. TI is licensing the operating system from StepNexus, which owns and maintains the MULTOS specification.

NI, QNX Announce OEM Bundle to Simplify Design of Embedded Devices
National Instruments (Nasdaq:NATI) and QNX Software Systems announced an OEM evaluation bundle of software and hardware that reduces the barrier to entry for engineers and scientists using graphical system design to create embedded devices that require measurement-quality analog I/O. The new bundle features a low-cost USB data acquisition device from NI, a single-board computer and drivers as well as evaluation versions of the QNX® Momentics® development suite and the NI LabVIEW Microprocessor SDK (Software Development Kit). Using the bundle, engineers and scientists quickly can incorporate the market's leading data acquisition hardware into their embedded designs.

Renesas Launches H8S/Tiny Series Microcontrollers
Renesas Technology America, Inc. announced the H8S/Tiny series, a new group in the popular H8S series of high-performance 16-bit microcontrollers (MCUs) for low-cost embedded system designs. There are a total of 24 devices in the H8S/Tiny series in three product groups: the 64-pin devices in the H8S/20103 group and the 80-pin devices in the H8S/20203 and H8S/20223 groups. The new MCUs are successors to the devices in the H8/Tiny series, offering more processing performance, additional on-chip peripheral functions, and advanced tool support. They maintain compatibility with the H8/Tiny devices, allowing customers to make smooth and rapid transitions to product designs that perform better and require fewer components. Xilinx Licenses Accelerated Computing Platform with Front Side Bus
Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX), the world's leading supplier of programmable solutions, announced it has begun commercial licensing of the high-performance computing industry's first FPGA-based acceleration solution to interface with the Intel Front Side Bus (FSB). Enabled by the high-performance 65nm Virtex(TM)-5 platform FPGA and Intel(R) QuickAssist Technology, the Xilinx(R) Accelerated Computing Platform (ACP) M1 licensing package supports implementations capable of full 1066MHz FSB performance. Altera Stratix II FPGA Powers SRC MAP Reconfigurable Processor Module
Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) announced that SRC Computers, Inc. has chosen the Stratix® II FPGA device for their new Series I MAP reconfigurable processor module used in high-performance computing applications such as financial, defense, energy and biometrics. Systems built with the Series I MAP are part of the SRC-7 product line that can accelerate applications such as Black-Scholes or medical imaging by over 30 times compared to current dual-core CPUs.

Xilinx Showcases Broadcast Solutions at Inter BEE 2007
Xilinx, Inc.
